Terryglass Arts Festival says Thank You

It is with great regret that we announce that we will not be having a Terryglass Arts Festival in 2018. The festival has been part of the lives of many for 20 years, and while we had hoped that we could hold it again this year, the logistics and obligations that are part of a modern festival, have resulted in a workload and responsibility that is greater than the committee of volunteers can provide.

Over the last few years the demands in terms of voluntary time and commitment necessary to plan and prepare over a 12 month period have increased significantly. There has been a large number of people from Terryglass, neighbouring villages and beyond involved over the years, but it has become difficult to attract significant numbers of new members of late, who have time to take on the various responsibilities that we are obliged to meet in terms of legislation, health and safety, programming, making applications for funding etc

We live in a vibrant and dynamic community and Terryglass Arts Festival had an impact on people of all ages, locally, regionally and nationally. In many respects it was amazing that such a small community was able to create and sustain it for so long. In short, the festival became bigger than we could manage.

To Tipperary Arts Officer, Melanie Scott, our main funders: Tipperary County Council, the Arts Council, Fáilte Ireland and Waterways Ireland, our many sponsors and supporters, and all the local volunteers who helped so willingly each year, to those who provided venues, services and expertise so freely, to all our many artists and performers, and all those who worked on and with the Terryglass Arts Festival committees, as well as all our friends who attended the thousands of events we ran, we say a big thank you. We are heartbroken to write this. However we take comfort when we think of all the fun, learning, entertainment and opportunities that have occurred and been enjoyed since 1999.

An entire generation has grown up with Terryglass Arts Festival and for that we, and all who have contributed in any way, can be very proud. We hope that the arts and creativity will continue to flourish in Terryglass, and surrounding communities.
